100 Word Challenge: Calm

Uffda. Yep, there it is. And it perfectly describes the last few days for me, that’s a definite. The scary part is that it isn’t about to get any better. Between a state licensing audit at work and getting ready for the holidays, there’s a ton of craziness still to come. Which is why I loved the prompt word from Tara over at Thin Spiral Notebook. And it brought to mind the perfect moment. As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Somnolence

Cuddled up
warm in bed,
the dark before dawn
envelops me.

I rub the sleep
from my still fuzzy eyes
as the incessant chirping
carries on.

Reaching upalarm-clock-1193291_640.jpg
I find the blasted thing
and stop the noise,
at least for now.

A few more minutes
are all I want,
no, need is more like it,
of somnolence.

Not quite ready
to face the world
in my still waking state,
the blankets are my shield.

But there it is again,
that incessant chirping
from the headboard
once again.

My calm
before the storm
of my busy day
is just about over.

Please don’t forget to stop by Thin Spiral Notebook and check out other great responses to this prompt!
