Is to give
Openly and freely
Of one’s self
With no expectation
Of a return.
Knowledge.
Money.
Power.
Fame.
Eat away
At the soul
Antithesis of
Generosity.
We learn
To seek out
Differences
Fears
And misunderstandings
To bury our kindness
In hatred
Intolerance
And pain.
Love your neighbor
As yourself
Has been lost
Subsumed
By greed
Intolerance
And hatred.
Then violence erupts
Spilling out
Like a disease
Poisoning all
Within its path
Until nothing remains
But scorched earth
And blackened souls.
Will it
Go down in flames
Such as this?
Or will we learn
To share after all?
