Author Interview: Kerry E.B. Black

I’ve got another great author interview for you! Kerry E.B. Black is the author of “Young Blood” in the Mirrors & Thorns anthology. It is quite the creepy story, trust me. And get your copy to read it yourself. Here’s a little about Kerry. Mirrors and Thorns Cover

Kerry E.B. Black writes from a little house along the bank of a foggy Pennsylvania river. Other published works can be found in “Postcard Poetry and Prose” and “Halloween Forevermore.”

What should we know about you?

I am a typical person, I suppose, over-filled with thoughts and empathy. I like almost everyone I meet. I read voraciously, and much like my writing, I enjoy many genres. I’m a huge fan of short written works, though.

piano-1655558_1920Music and writing, how does it work for you?

A well-performed composition moves me to tears, be it music or written word. A lyrical line can stun me to reflective silence or provide a pathway to aspiration.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

So many favorites! However, off the top of my head, I’ll mention Neil Gaiman, Jane Austin, J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, Holly Black, and C.S. Lewis.

Inspirations and ideas—where do you find them?

What an odd idea! Knowing where ideas and inspiration springs seems somehow counterintuitive. After all, a gentle breeze can bear a muse, or a sunset over a lake. A news story may so outrage an activist heart that words spring from fingers to keyboard in an angry rush. Tears pour into works, and laughter. Beauty and honesty and fears all find expression. All I know for certain is I pray the wellspring of inspiration never runs dry

If you could meet one fictional character, who would it be and why?

I would like to meet Lucy Pevensie from C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia because she is a beautiful soul. Besides, maybe then she’d introduce me to Aslan.

What is the one piece of advice you would want all aspiring authors to know?mistakes-1756958_1920

If you want to be a writer, don’t ever give up. Join writers’ groups. Some are supportive. Others help you form a shell which will protect you when you release your work, because not everyone will like it, and that’s okay. Know why? A lot will like it, and who knows? Maybe you’ll become someone’s favorite author. Won’t that be fun?
